Gaza 2020: Breaking the siege is a group of international activists seeking to break Israel’s inhumane siege on 2 million Gazans and call attention to the humanitarian disaster created in the Gaza Strip. Our aim is to symbolically break the siege of Gaza by cutting the fence and entering the strip by land for the first time in 2020-the year Gaza becomes uninhabitable, according to the UN.
However, our international delegation of activists were arrested by Israeli forces when they tried to cut through the Gaza barrier fence and held for interrogation for over 10 hours at the Ofakim police station in the south of Israel.
Gaza 2020 Breaking the Siege will continue to work to end the Israeli blockade on 2 million Gazans and enter the Strip. We call on the international community to pressure the Israeli government to immediately lift it’s medieval siege on Gaza and allow unimpeded access to humanitarian assistance, restore the human rights of Gazans and the right of return for Palestinian refugees forcibly expelled from their homes in 1948 and 1967 – and to join the overwhelming majority of Palestinian civil society sectors calling on the international community to boycott, divest from and sanction Israel until it complies with international law.
